Brand profile
Encrypted messaging service
Signal is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted messaging service for text messages, voice calls and video calls. It is developed by the nonprofit Signal Foundation and its subsidiary Signal Messenger LLC, and its clients and server are published under the AGPL-3.0 licence.
Signal succeeded RedPhone, an encrypted calling app, and TextSecure, an encrypted texting app, which Whisper Systems, a start-up co-founded by Moxie Marlinspike and Stuart Anderson, first released in beta in May 2010.
The Signal Foundation was launched in February 2018 with initial funding of $50 million from WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton.
Signal's brand-assets page lists the Signal word mark, logo, design marks and app icon as its brand assets and publishes usage guidelines for them.
