Porsche AG is a German manufacturer of sports cars, SUVs and sedans headquartered in Stuttgart. Ferdinand Porsche founded the engineering office that became the company in 1931.

Porsche AG is owned by Volkswagen AG, in which Porsche Automobil Holding SE holds a controlling stake. Its current range includes the 911, Panamera, Macan, Cayenne and Taycan.

Porsche lettering has appeared on the bonnets of its sports cars since 1948, and the crest since 1952. Porsche says the crest was updated in 1954, 1963, 1973, 1994 and 2008, and it presented a modernised version in 2023. [1] [2] [3]

• 1931 Ferdinand Porsche founded Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche GmbH in Stuttgart with Adolf Rosenberger and Anton Piëch. [1]
• 1951-03 The Stuttgart doctor and art collector Ottomar Domnick launched a logo competition at German art academies with a prize of 1,000 marks; Porsche’s management did not adopt any of the submitted designs. [3] [2]
• 1951-12-27 Ferry Porsche noted the idea of a steering-wheel hub featuring the Porsche name and the Stuttgart coat of arms, and then commissioned the Porsche designer Franz Xaver Reimspieß to draw a trademark. [2]
