City Bank is a first-generation private commercial bank, founded in 1983 by 12 local businessmen as The City Bank Limited; its first branch was on B. B. Avenue in Dhaka.
The bank was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1986 and on the Chittagong Stock Exchange in 1995.
On 5 July 2008, during its 25th year, the bank shortened its brand name from The City Bank Limited to City Bank and unveiled a new logo with the pay-off line “Making Sense of Money”.
